Our practice team is committed to helping you navigate fee requirements for consultations, surgery and other possible out-of-pocket expenses.
Consultation fees
Dr Wilkinson is committed to setting fees that are reasonable and reflective of his expertise. Fees are generally higher than the rebate provided by Medicare, and our care team will inform you of the anticipated fee when you call to make your appointment. Accounts need to be paid on the day of consultation. Usually we can arrange for the Medicare rebate to be transferred directly to your bank account.
Surgery fees
Surgery fees vary depending on the complexity and duration of surgery. Thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery is technically demanding and aftercare can be quite involved. If you have private health insurance, your health fund will cover the hospital costs but will only make a relatively small contribution to the doctors’ fees. So generally there will be additional out-of-pocket expenses which cannot be claimed back from your private health fund or Medicare. Our practice team will clearly explain all of this detail, if and when a recommendation for surgery is made.
Account payments
We accept payment by cash, cheque, direct debit, credit card or EFTPOS.
Public versus private care options
We can advise you of possible options where possible. Uninsured patients may be offered “Intermediate” care as a private patient in the public hospital.
